Bay Area Freshman 10 of 2011 Spotlight: Young Bari
Despite only being 21 years old, Young Bari is surprisingly one of the members of this year’s Freshmen with the most experience in the rap game. He dropped his first album at 14, and throughout the years Bari has developed a style and a movement that is all his own. Yet it seems like central to everything Bari does is balance. He avoids swearing in all of his music which is a great look for winning over parents, schools, and the major media outlets, but he chooses to rap about subject matter that’s still hood and relevant to his target audience. His voice is full of personality and flair, and as a result is immediately recognizable. Yet unlike some other Bay Area MC’s who also share this characteristic, Bari makes sure that the listener can fully understand and decipher each word. Overall his music and rap style is unique enough to carve out his own lane, yet is still close enough to what people are used to that they have no trouble getting down with it.
